TWO PHOTO SHOWS SANDWICH A SHORT TRIP TO FLORIDA

I just returned from an 8 day trip. It included the DC Antique Photo Show at the Holiday Inn in Arlington, VA, the new FotoFair/NYC and a short trip to Boca Grande, Florida for some R&R.

It was the second year that I set up at the DC show and I was looking forward to a good show. It appeared to me, that the door was down quite a bit from the previous year, though I was told later that it was about the same. That said, I was a bit disappointed in my sales at the show, though I did buy well. Buyers at this show seemed to be looking for low end items and my dollar box of snaps didn't see much of a rest that day.

The new FotoFair/NYC had it's debut at the Lighthouse for the Blind, at 59th and Park in New York City, just a few blocks from the AIPAD show. Many of my regular eBay snapshot buyers showed up with the early buying crowd, and I did a brisk business. Here is a pick of my booth at set-up.

I sell all sorts of photography from snapshots (my favorite) to albumens, daguerreotypes, tintypes, etc.  This year I also showed work by contemporary photographer Domenico Foschi and I was meant to show work by Roberta Vivoli, though her photos have disappeared into the UPS abyss.  The difference for me between the DC and NYC shows seemed to be that buyers were more interested in the higher end items in NYC.   Even though I sell a diverse type of images, I would estimate that 80% of my sales in NYC were better snapshots.    It was a beautiful day in NYC which may have kept some buyers away, but I look forward to future shows at this location.

I did find some fun new photos which you can find on my website and ebay later tonight (Monday, March 21st).  Here are just a couple of fun images.

And a final thanks to my friend and hostess during my stay in Florida, Cindy Harlow.  I went kayaking for the first time, went to a Rays/Red Sox game, saw lots of dolphins and just had a fabulous time!
